George Bush and Republican Congress members have delivered the grand prize to their corporate constituency, the revision of The Fair Labor Standard Act. The shameful eradication of the 40 hour work week and overtime pay will result in huge corporate profits and lost jobs because fewer working Americans will be forced to endure longer hours for less pay. As there are more companies using sweatshops, even greater wealth will be transferred from the crumbling American middle class to the rich elite. It is a long step away from democracy and a stimulus for more social problems, family dissolution and unrest. How can the United States remain the greatest nation on Earth with its work rules rolled back to the distant past and job opportunity squelched?
